Self Help For Mood Disorders

Seeking Professional Help

Self-help has an important role in helping people manage psychological problems. However, especially if you are having suicidal thoughts, severe hopelessness, persistent depression or hypomanic episodes or episodes of psychosis where you are hearing voices or having odd or unusual thoughts that are causing significant distress, you should consider getting professional help. It appears that only certain specific structured and directive psychotherapies, including cognitive behavioral therapy, are particularly helpful in terms of being effective in addressing problems with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and psychosis.
